Henry Jenkins is a passionate person in regards with the digital media and the platform that it produces and provides. People can now consume media and extract that and build on with their own creativity to produce things like videos, blogs, fan fictions and so on.
Here, we have an example of a fan page dedicated for the community that is passionate about the ‘ship’ – Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians and Elsa from Frozen. As Jenkins stated, the audience are able to draw two different characters from two different animations and yet have a crossover and make a connection due to their similarities in their superpowers. This fandom was a result of the participatory culture (Jenkins 2007).
This collection of fan arts available from different artist that have contributed to the Jelsa fandom is another form of participatory culture. The creativity and imagination of the members are acknowledged as it makes it way online and people are able to view and comment on it. This gives a sense of social connection – which is why people continue to do it and engage with one another on this platform. The same goes for the fan fiction as well.
In the last part of the blog includes a comment section, which allows for members in Jelsa fandom to interact with one another. However, as Jenkins suggested, it is a feasible platform, positive comments and criticism can both arise from this blog. The best way to achieve a healthy interaction is to have members or editors to constantly keep in check and take down any unnecessary comments.
Overall, this blog showed how people can create and share content online fairly easily. The main fuel that drives people to share is because they have something to tell the community – whether it is an idea for a story or even an image in their head for a drawing. It forms a social connection for the members who share the same interest and are able to interact with one another online.
